My Dance Card Is Empty
~Marge Tindal~ 1999

The arms that once surrounded me,
now hold someone new.
I miss the closeness of your touch,
and yes, I still miss you.

In leaving your arms I learned,
that love isn't always what one believes.
Now someone else is waltzing
in arms that once held me.

I'll wait for the next dance
and hope you will know,
This heart is waiting for you,
if the music plays real slow.

Just ask and I will check
my dance card and see,
if I have one more dance left,
just for you and me.

-------------------------------------------
A waltz, a fox trot
a tango or two ...
Come on Balladeer ...
I'll trip the light fantastic with you. ~M~

Why, Marge, I think I've never had the slightest expectation
That I would ever get such a terrific invitation.
I've seen the way you move...poetic phrases full of charms
I'm not sure I could trust myself to hold you in my arms.

What if they played Sinatra or a Mathis from the past?
I know my little self-restraint would have no chance to last.
I'd say or do some foolish thing through my infatuation
I sadly can resist most anything - except temptation.

Your head would rest so perfectly right here upon my shoulder
And, as the tune intensified, I'm sure I would get bolder.
Our moves would be so passionate I know our dance would be a
Vertical application of a horizontal idea.

I ache to feel the pleasure of my arm around your waist,
Your other hand upon my cheek so delicately placed.
There's only one dance on your card so please think hard and fast
Don't ask to be with me unless you want the dance to last.

Why Balladeer,
you could hold me near
and never lose a step.
Within your arms I'm sure I'd be
very adept.

So put your arms around my waist,
do not waste this chance.
Around the floor we will twirl
and dance, dance, dance.

When the music stops
you can sing to me.
After all, a Balladeer
is what you claim to be.

Sofly whisper in my ear,
of poetic renderings ...
veritcal moods can quickly change
to thoughts horizontally.

Easy moves for one so bold,
to sweep me off my feet.
A tune you'll croon ...
if you find me sweet.

The music's playing
take my hand ...
let's dance like no one's watching.
Let's dance to beat the band !

Oh, lest I forget ... thanks Denise and Hoot.

What a wonderfully big smile you and Balladeer brought to my face, Marge.  Such a beautiful and poignant poem that you wrote.
