Anticipation packed the place at Pips' Provencal Pool.
Defending champ the "Balladeer" and Dr. Moose would duel
at planetary nine-ball extra points for posting puns,
alliterative expertise most impudently done.

With planets racked and ready and the referees in place,
Doc draws the break and deftly drives Mars in the corner space.
"Pray tell us Deer, poetic prof" (as Pluto's picked off next)
"provide us with some insight sir, to your vast intellect.)

"Most surely Moose" say Balladeer, "at this I oft' excell,"
(Doc next draws down on Neptune, notching that one up as well.)
"you see my Moose my brain pan is precisely perfect sized..."
(Doc shoots and scores on Saturn, just as he'd theorized.)

(Ol' Deer droned on determinedly expounding in detail,
Doc pocketed the planets one through nine dropped without fail.)
" and thus the Deer's superior to Moose in many ways,
a fact you will not soon forget once your professor plays."

"But Deer, no pun intended, just perhaps it might "behoove"
you to pay more attention when the Doctor's in the groove!

P.S.
Please note Uranus was not harmed in putting forth this ruse,
whose content I'm assured was meant quite solely to amuse.
Doc

He's right. The game was nine-ball. Everyone knows how it's played.
You shoot the balls in order until all nine balls are made
But Moose was so excited that he lost all self-control.
Instead of Mercury, #1, the Mars ball hit the hole!!

And then he knocked in Pluto, which of course was number 9.
In fact he knocked in every ball completely out of line!
Deer noticed how the Doc was disregarding every rule
So he let him continue to portray a motley fool.

While Deer pretended not to notice, Moose was on a tear.
His cue moved fast as lightning, planetoids flew everywhere
He made his final shot and watched the last one disappear
Then raised his fist and screamed triumphantly, "I beat the Deer!!!!!"

"Sorry, Moose", the judge said. "Seems you fractured every rule."
"I hear you do the same when you attend that workshop school."
"There ain't no shortcuts to this life. You gotta do what's right"
"and once again it seems that Balladeer has won the fight."

Poor Moose trudged home, dejectedly. His head was hanging low.
He learned the lesson first hand that most folks already know.
Just do the best you can in life and try to perservere
But don't go chasing miracles - you'll never beat the deer.

I was a lad so long ago, when first I heard about
The epic game of planet pool, and two who fought it out.
Back and forth their banter bounced, planets in their pockets plunged
Dueling with their wit and brains, as their tongue-swords slashed and lunged.

The crowd was hushed as Saturn fell, the Deer said with a grin
“Moose I cannot rightly say, how fun this game has been.
But I’ve had years to hone my craft, such skill should make you pale!”
Then Balladeer sunk the planets all, each one without fail.

We watched in awe  as the Doctor smiled, a twinkle in his eyes,
“I’ve only lost the game today, next year I’ll take the prize!”
We marveled as the masters shook, and I won’t soon forget,
The two PiP poets who played pool, all on the internet.

And as each player moves their piece, confident and tall
They forget that they can move themselves, in the greatest game of all

I like the  P.S. at the end of your poem Moose

And I like Balladeeer's ending haha

And as each player moves their piece, confident and tall
They forget that they can move themselves, in the greatest game of all

Taylor, your addition was great. It's always fun to come up with some topic and watching people join in to expand it. My thanks to Moose for coming up with the idea and you for coming along....

Taylor,
I echo Balladeers' sentiments. Always a pleasure to have someone join in the fun.
Doc

Balladeer,
LOL, M'friend, I'll concede this one on a technicality, but of course, you know I'll be back.

Simple, Ken. The planets are in the universe. The Star Ship Enterprise travels the universe. Traveling through universes requires a time warp. Dr. Moose has a warped mind.

It's so simple when you think about it
