Thoughts of Loving You

When time is right to share a final word
With those I love and on my dying breath
Express to one and all what must be heard
Ere I surrender to the arms of Death;
When matters of the Earth are mine no more,
That somber day the Reaper comes to reap -
To close the match and count the final score,
With scrolls in hand I face the final sleep;
The only word I speak will be your name,
A poet's way - the only way I can,
By whispering your name once more proclaim
That loving you made me a better man
And with that word, to all the world, assure
My love of loving you will long endure.

Wow! your sonnet is absolutely stunning... I am still learning but I could feel the flow of your words which tells me this is how a sonnet must sound for a perfect meter.

Keeping this.

If there were a shooting star
There are two things for a start
I'd wish the 46 were 100
and that you would never part.

Thank you for sharing this sonnet, you have made me fall in love with the sonnet-or almost, I am reading nothing else.

God bless

Yep...that's the way to write a sonnet.  Now I know what I'm doing wrong.  I'm not staying married long enough...

Wow, Pete!  It does help to see a sonnet that is beautifully written and full of romance that warms the heart.  If you're not a poet, what are you?

Thanks for sharing this treasure.

Pete...I read this one when you first posted it,
and I really thought I replied to it...guess not.
Must have been because I was too busy sighing
over this beautiful sonnet of love.
Your wife is one lucky lady, my friend, and you
are DEFINITELY a poet.
