drum the sounds of life aloud
receiving with smiles, each stranger
understand the beat of impromptu
masking surprise by even seam

there is so much rhythm around that
hearts will seem to be happiness rich
every sound would wish to simply be

sing lyrics, if you wish, in soft whispers
or hum the sounds in alto
unless rhapsody prefers a silent you
nurture the feelings in your linen
dance with the spirit of wind and
swim the unknown waters

once or twice you might hurt your ego
for there would be times when the beats are off

life will sometimes rock and other times roll
it follows neither a rule nor an alibi
for it moves like a breeze kissing a leaf
evoking many a sweet response

and while the sounds rule the arena
let the music play and the drum roll
over and beyond the hills may they go
united with your spirit when you
drum the sounds of life aloud
