                   Fanatic

                   Marooned,
             cursing his fate,
         stranded on this atoll
he pretends it is all the world,
and the sum of all wonderful places.
Some day he’ll stone the rescue boat,
       hide til the sailors leave
          and curse his fate,
                marooned.

That's a write-down of the original into this format, which is shorter than it seems at first glance. It'll take a bit of practice, but I think it'll be a good thing to have in the old toolbox!

Here's what that poem originally looked like (you can see why I decided to start with this one , eh?)

Fanatic

Marooned on
a voyage of discovery,
he still curses the fate that
stranded him, the sea, the farther
shore, curses and pretends this sere atoll
is all the world. Some day he will stone the boat
that comes to save him, hide from the
sailors, dive and swim beyond the
reef, and laughing, curse again
as they fail, lose hope and
sail away, then paddle
back to shore,
marooned.

I want to know the rules, too. I have no idea what you mean by this term. (I told ya'll I know nothing about the forms and technical parts of poetry) I sure would like to learn some, though.

Rictameter
Rictameter is a scheme similar to Cinquain.

Start your first line with a
two syllable word, then consecutively increase the number of syllables
per line by two - 2,4,6,8,10 Then down again, 8,6,4,2 Making the final
line the same two syllable word with which you began.

Thanks for the instructions, Miss Nan.  See what happens when I miss a class?--You come up with terms that are totally new to me.  Guess I better get with the program!

Teacher,
Know I've been out
But know I am sooooo back
Perhaps this meter I can ace
That is IF I should see a friendly face
Among the chalk-dust on the floor
Come back for more, VICKY
Okay with you ...
Teacher ?

All righty, Margie.  Scoot over and make some room
on that merry-go-round.
Of course, I'm gonna be around for rictameters,
and besides...who do you think suggested them to the teacher?

Now I must go post one of my oldies to tide you over
until I can talk my muse into writing a new one.

Good to see you here, buddy.

Butthead
Stop crowding me
When we gonna get there?
You better stay on your own side
I am so bored why does it take so long?
Momma please tell him to stop it
Are we almost there yet?
Stop touching me
Butthead

Okay I am waiting to see some others. C'mon peeps I have only been back a few days and I managed to barf one up.

And a limerick tossed in just for Nan

One day I was out wandering 'round
With my trusty ole red spotted hound
He stopped to go pee
And whoa nelly me
A shamrock sprang up from the ground

Mmm...rictameter...er....um....teach Nan I got lost on my way to class, but I'm back...I guess, that is if my computer lets me, because he's acting very not funny lately, throwing me out all the time, disconnecting my printers and all that is due to a bug called opaserv, wich is not removeble at all, despite what Symantic tells me.
It doesn't damage anything, but is just bugging up all the time.
Soon I'll get me a new one, computer that is, well actually my hubby is getting a new one and I'm getting his LOL...then...goodbye Opa (opa is Dutch for grandpa, you don't think Balladeer could be behind all this? He just became a grandpa didn't he?)

Ok, ricta meter.

Hey, teacher Nan. I just got back here again.

I need to ask a question before I start on trying to do a rictameter.

Okay, I've got the syllables for the nine lines written down. Now,are each of the lines supposed to do something like the 5 lines in the cinquain?
Like....
1st line  (the title)
2nd line  (describes the title)
3rd line  (states an action)
4th line  (expresses a feeling)
5th line  (another word for the title)

Will you put them down if they do?
Thank you.
Ethel

Petting
my cat is an
all day job for he's large.
But his blue eyes and purr motor
entice me into this gentle animal's
life of sleep and food that I am
so jealous of and can
only touch by
Petting

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

True love
you-me me-you
Two hearts ticking in rhime
When lovers' eyes appeal and charm
Fire fills body and mind
Two souls joined
True love

note: this is my first rictameter attempt
