In January, I will be meeting with a few poets in my local area who want to start up a poetry workshop. It would be nice to be able to say to them, "just get online with Passions' Poets..." but unfortunately, these people do not have immediate access to the Internet like we do.  I have watched and admired the efforts of those who participate under Nan's tutelage.  I would like to have your permission to use some of your examples for kick-starts at these meetings that I will be attending.  But not without your permission.

So, please let me know if I can say, Doc offers this, Titia excels at that, Marge created thus...

and down the line, when these folks get on-line, watch out...

our Membership may explode yet again.

Thanks for any assistance you might give me.

I'm happy to oblige... Do you have any requests for a January workshop for these folks to participate in?

What's everybody else's opinion?

This workshop, Nan, is a spin-off of another writer's group whose agenda was not what the poets had in mind.  These are a couple of serious gals who really want to learn, explore, and improve their poetry [me included!!]

We each have a copy of You Can Write Poetry by Jeff Mock.  In my perusal of the first five chapters, I found that it is fairly good as far as an overview goes on how to create and why one wants to write.  When we got to Chapter Six, it was quite apparent that particular chapter alone could encompass a month of Mondays in study.

So we're starting out brand new in January, as the previous leaders of the creative writing group had, as I say, a different agenda, and did not want to really delve into poetry.

What I thought I would do, and with your permission, as well as the crew of this Forum's permission, is to take the glossary words as they appear, and match them to various themes you folks have worked on in the past, so we can have some living examples of how people today interpret such words and schemes as onomatopoeia, for example.

I will also ask for some special permission here and now, if I may.

As these two folks are not currently on-line with computers, would it be OK if I shared their work-product, along with my own, so we can get some feedback from the pros that reside in these blue walls here in the Workshop Forum?  I know that the ladies would be THRILLED if I could bring this to them.  It would certainly give them the incentive they are seeking...and by virtual reality, "widen" our group a bit.

So, as I am in the process of thinking this through, would the other members here be willing to give us some critical analysis?  [I think the two ladies would feel they've gone to heaven if that occurred...]

So, I've no particular request for January's theme, other than getting permission for the above, and I would be greatly appreciative if you all have any advice for me from the groups that you may be working with in real time.

Thanks so much....K

G'Mornin' Brighteyes....

I see no problem here - As a matter of fact, I've encountered this same issue before... Oftentimes I'll be teaching English and doing a poetry unit - I'll want the class to post for feedback, but they don't all want to register individually... I have a Passions membership registered as "Class"... You can post your friends' work under that name (I'll give you the password via email)...

Then the rest of our motley crew here will know that the posts by that name are not separately registered, but a part of an offline workshop - Maybe we can all give them special attention so your friends can get some good feedback.

As for using examples... You have my permission to use anything of mine - How about the rest of you guys??..

Wake up, Duncan - Just because you passed in such a good assignment doesn't mean you get to take a nap in class...

Nan, this is indeed great news!  It may be that I will end up "leading" this class...me, the wallflower of my generation...

and you know I need ALL the help I can get!  And I'm really looking forward to what your erstwhile students think about this.

What's the payback?  I make marvelous muffins....

I would be most proud to have my poetry (especially the limerick) used as an example of how NOT to write poetry!
Now, who was asking for a ....stud muffin?

Hi Sunshine, be my guest and use all you think you need to from my writings, even those at open#.

Some time ago I wrote one about what I've learned on the blue pages here, it's one poem but each stanza(?) is written in a different form. When I've time I'll look it up and send you the URL.

I truly would be honored.

As for critics, I'll try I'll try
Looking forward to the first 'class'poems

Charisma, my dear, the first thing you must learn is that You are not a stud...

that's something for Nan to find in her Christmas stocking...

now, as for the goodies, I think I can arrange something else for you...

and I will be bringing a lot of the material that we cover back here, for feedback to you...a complete, and Universal, learning experience will begin in January!!!!

I'm so JAZZED....

Sunshine - Will there be a session on kitty kicking?  I have some great senryus on that subject.  How about "true" stories about Balladeer?  I may have a few of those, too!  What?  Only serious poets need apply?  Rats.  I still admire you.  And, yes, if you want to use anything of mine, please feel free.  I am also willing to come talk to your group if you will pay my travel expenses (heh).

I owe everyone brownies...ack! Ah well...NAN...hope you can send me that info on posting others' work again, my computer at work was disconnected today, and I've got a submission by one of the group poets that she would truly love to have some feedback on, and I don't want to break the rules in here...so if you can send it to my home comp [you've got the e-mail addy] it would be vastly appreciated...

The group has fluctuated from five to three members and I am sure in our third week we will see a few new faces.  I have been asked to facilitate every other week, and I don't get the idea they think I know what I'm doing...but I'm up for learning, that's for sure...

[LJA...quit kicking the kitties...]

So folks, I'm going to have to start gathering addresses for sending brownies if I expect you all to show up to help me in this project.

But just remember, if you only THINK of brownies, the calories find you!  Hugs, K

LOL

I'm a prisoner myself in the words I write
But every time I try again putting up a fight
As it is my second language they're not always right
Once I will come out of prison, well I hope, I might

What do you mean by 'Word Prisoners' being our task for the weekend??? Do we have to write something?

Titia, I have posted a poem written by one of the writer's group members to see what you all think.  I will be taking your feedback to her.  It's posted under "Word Prisoners".  Nan has given me permission to share these works, and hopefully down the road, you'll be welcoming them in as new members of PiP!
