All righty, you guys... Here's my new poem - I figured I had to write something for this workshop - since so many of you are posting old stuff.... .. I did post it in Open #7 though - I couldn't resist - The forum was empty - It wasn't my fault...

NEW STUFF
COMMON GROUND

What tolls betoken Common fare?
Divergent roads design Detour -
Free Passage signs should read Beware!

Lest Common Place ensigns allure
To forge untrodden Avenue
As One-Way streets likely procure

Adversive Ways that lead askew
The sense of bearings Common Sound
Tread nary roads impending rue.

There's surety in Common found.
Converging paths the rightly pair...
Best pay the toll to Common Ground.

Then there's my archives - You guys are probably really sick of this poem by now, but it's one of my very first, and I'm pretty attached to it... Plus - it fits the assignment rather well...

OLD STUFF
SERENDIPITY

From sheltered berth embarks the maiden sail
With harbored spirit innocent and frail.
As windward breath uplifts the halcyon veil,
Alluring barques enrapture seafare's tale.

Whence haven's port casts sanctity aside,
Presumptuous youth cavorts a vernal tide.
E'er wanderlust capricious hearts abide,
The sea's unyielding sovereignty defied.

Full mainsails prance midsummer's vast blue-green,
Beguiling wanton ventures unforeseen.
Felicity the guide as sloops careen
Through maelstroms in waters once serene.

Blithe wisdom falls; the robust tumults wane.
Intrepid sails eye placid shores again.
Now learned navigators ne'er to feign
As fore 'n' aft, great journeys yet remain.

Hibernal mariner with white-capped lore
Of raging tempests in those days of yore,
Aye, come about to tranquil deep before
that beck, "Red-Right-Return" forever moor.

Waft every crest upon your destined sea.
Embrace the Wave of Serendipity,
Lest its elusive arcane ecstasy
Refurl with sail for all eternity.

There ya have it...

Well, I haven't seen either of them before and I think they are great!

Love and hugs,

WOW!! Now it's perfectly clear why you're the teacher here. You certainly assigned yourself some complicated rhyme schemes.

I can see why you feel attached to Serendipity. I don't think I had seen it before so it's new to me and I loved it.

I echo Pete's comment, and add another Wow!
Exquisite poetry, Nan. I especially liked the line "Embrace the Wave of Serendipity" in the second poem. Yes, I, too, can see why you're the teacher,

Nan. I had not read either of these. Thank you for posting them. They are both wonderful and great examples for a student of poetry

Nan after reading a poem from you, I'm always stunned with your vocabulary and after translating in total awe, as I am now.

Munda, I might add that the same thing applies to those of us who speak English as our primary (or even only) language. She can be awesome for sure. ~~Pete sucks up to the teacher a little here~~

certainly on another level than myself.
your style here is strange to me.
perhaps this style posesses a label
of some sort?
your work here has been enjoyed.
