Ok, so this is me.
Standing here, not sure what to be.

My future is fast approaching,
Something I'm not prepared for, contrary to my coaching.

So I smile and pretend,
That this is not the end.

My last prom,
The last time I stay up late to talk to my mom.

The band is playing,
The valedictorians . . . I'm not sure what they're saying.

Thirteen years have flew by,
Looking about me I stop and sigh.

There's the girl who just had a baby,
There's the guy whose HIV test is still a maybe.

There's my friend who used to play with me in the mud,
There's the bully who used to push me down with a thud.

There was the recipient of first kiss,
Something I encourage everyone not to miss!

There's my ex best friend,
The one who tried to kill herself, a little off the deep end.

Oh wait its time to move,
Gotta get up, stay in the groove.

They shake my hand,
I listen to the band.

Congratulations the graduating class,
Time to leave at last.

I used to say I couldn't wait to say goodbye,
I never thought about what these words imply.

My future looks so bright,
And yet I crying out of fear, oh what a sight.

"The worst of what people do to one another is deceive.
Because when you love someone you control their version
of reality. If you lie to them that's like making them
autistic so that what they believe is reality is in fact,
not their true situation at all."

It's not the angry words that break the heart, it's the silence.

Someone said that true love is like a ghost -- often spoke of but never seen.
I've seen both and yet in my darkest hours, tend to believe that neither exits.

This is an extremely powerful poem. You sure have a way with words. It really made me think of what is yet to come in my life time. I absolutly loved this one.

I agree...very thought provoking...especially the line "I used to say I couldn't wait to say goodbye,
I never thought about what these words imply"
Nice one.

Graduation is a hard thing to go through, even when it isn't yours! I watched a lot of my friends graduate yesterday, and it was hard. You describe it well.

Very powerful, even though I haven't graduation high school yet, I just had my 8th grade graduation.  I know not a big deal, but I still felt some of the feelings you described.  Great poem!

Lucius - Thank you for the compliment, you're right there is so much left to come in our lives what scares me is what's out there and how to handle it! Of course I'm a big girl now, I should be able to handle all of this - right?

Lani - About saying goodbye, it's kind of funny b/c all the way through High School I couldn't wait to get out and now alls I want to do is hold on for dear life.

Jen - Just wait my dear, your time's coming! J

Jeremy - No problem. I am assuming that college is much better than high school, right?

Lovebug - I think it's actually more difficult to watch your friends graduate than for yourself to actually go through the ceremony. Probly b/c when you leave you know that it's YOU that's leaving, not you that's left behind while everyone leaves.

LoveAll - No, eighth grade gaduation is a big deal. You're completely changing at that stage in your life. My advice? Enjoy your high school years as much as possible because hwile it may not feel like it at times, they'll be over before you know it.

To All: Thanks for the replies, it always amazes me when I post, how people reply! I get all warm and tingly inside J j/k Take care, thanks for the replies!!

Love,
Crystal
