*note: there's an explanation of the names below the poem.

My heart, forgive me this affliction
The love you feel I can’t resist
I think I found my vocation
This time it’s real I have a gist
And I will stand by this conviction
I’ve met my mentors with ovation
The gifts of Mnemosyne and Zeus,
Nine sisters. Each will be my muse
And I will write with inspiration,
And with my verses I’ll amuse,
I’ll stun, bewilder and amaze.
The critics will not get enough
Of words of Thalia, my love.
I’ll travel back through time and space
And lead my readers to the past
With Clio’s words I’ll flabbergast
And with perceiving eyes I’ll gaze
And write about years that passed
And resurrect them for the crowd.
I’ll take my reader from the ground,
Enlivened greatly from afar,
High into space to reach the star
And there he’ll live forevermore
Urania, I’ve grown unbound!
There is no height that I can’t capture!
I’ll tango high above the floor
And praise the holy Terpsichore
For winding me to feel the rapture.
And Euterpe with her golden strings
Will play for me in exaltation.
Polymnia will wake the nation
To listen to a soul that sings!
Oh Calliope, let’s hear a tale
The youth is hungry for you word
Half-drowsing and quite bored
The youth is tired of the stale.
It needs a hero to acclaim
Oh Calliope, don’t let me fail,
Don’t let a writer sink in shame.
And for the wisemen, Melpomene,
Create someone they haven’t seen
His sorrow let them sympathize
And curse his destiny with spleen.
Erato, help my soul arise!
I’m gathering the information
My love’s effect to aggrandize
And to extend my love’s sensation.
To saturate with inspiration
My broken heart, my blind eyes.
