I may be different, but at least I can feel.
I may not be cool, but at least I am real.
Just because I dress how I like,
And instead of a car I use my old bike.
Just because I always hum,
And in class my questions are especially dumb.
Well, even though I do all these things,
My soul still cries and my heart still sings.
So it's better to be a person who follows their heart
Than to wake up one day and just be an old fart.
I may be different, but at least I can feel.
I may not be cool, but at least I am real.

(I wrote this because a group of young girls came to me today and said they thought my dress, I got in Spain, was really ugly and weird. Oh, and the part about the old fart, well, sometimes it's fun to add humor even into serious subject.)

If I remember correctly, I heard a quote in English class the other day that went something like this, "Society honors its alive conformists and it'd dead troublmakers."  What is the use to be the same as every one else, we are all individuals, and I am happy that you are able to express yourself.  Great job!  *Rach*

Just to let you know I can absolutely relate to this topic of individuality and have written many poems regarding this situation.  It is so much more rewarding to be your own person.  I give you props for expressing how you feel.

indeed, as i am an individual that doesn't adhere to the twinkling customs and trends
of my peers, i feel more real than i imagine any of those who ejaculate their crude offenses to be. in this manner i am very real, to myself and to all those who know me.
i like your poem, because it is well written and defines a positive attitude for all those who dont wish to conform to the fading trends of society. good job.

i am in the most highest mood right now...and you know what?! being a non-conformist is the best part of belonging to a society...especially one that is full of conformists!

live your life in your own intepretation...never spend time intepreting the lives of others...coz at the same time your individuality is withering away

the poem is great...i piece i can relate to
i like the aspect you added of 'at least i can feel...at least i am real'
that added that spark to the poem that just made me think...some people can be shallow...but obviously you're not because you write such expressive poetry.
well done

i never thought i'd die alone, i laughed the loudest who'd have known?
i traced the cord back to the wall, no wonder it was never plugged in at all
i took my time, i hurried up
the choice was mine i didn't think enough
I'm too depressed to go on, you'll be sorry when i'm gone
I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when i still felt alive, we couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over i'd survived
I couldn't wait till i got home, to pass the time in my room alone
I never thought i'd die alone, another six months I'll be unknown
Give all my things to my friends, you'll never set foot in my room again
You'll close it off, board it up
Remember the time i spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall, please tell mum this is not her fault
I never conquered, rarely came
But tomorrow holds such better days
Days when i can still feel alive, when i can't wait to get outside
The world was wide, the time goes by
The tour is over, i've survived
I can't wait till i get home, to pass the time in my room alone
