The dream of being a star

Limbo

All throughout my life,
I wanted to be something big.
Someone to be in the limelight,
The one dabbling with the stars.

So at 17 I dropped out of school,
Then headed towards the coast.
Hoping that I would meet someone,
Who would make my dreams a reality.

In Sydney at a function,
I met the one who could make it happen.
He called himself "Dave",
And carried with him an amount of authority.

As impressionable as I was,
Leaving home to live with him was it.
I had to make sacrifices,
To live in the world of fame.

It was here it all started,
That my life started to collapse.
Nights of rape and coctails,
The never ending supply of crack.

Was this the way that it was meant to be?
I didn't want my life to be like this.
So taking the last ounce of sanity that I had,
I marched out of there holding my head up.

I got on the first train back,
To the one true place I deserved.
My home wouldn't ever judge me,
It welcomed me with open arms.

Looking back on those days now,
They seem to be as horrid as before.
But the one thing I am grateful for though,
Is getting the courage to get away.
