Boneyard Dancers

I believe,
The air we breathe,
Is tainted by the disintegration of hope.
We have been leaning against notions
Etched in marble headstones -
Your marker states helpless,
Mine scrawls out insecurity.

See,
You and me,
We've been flirting with death,
Teasing him with our fear.
My womanly form,
You're masculine hue;
Doesn't matter,
Cause death goes both ways,
And he is always there,
Waiting for a lick.

Cause if you aren't taking a stand,
You're just taking up room.
Yeah,
You've been feeling cool,
With your Grateful Dead stickers
And tie die shirts,
But you're just a rebel in a pastel Pinto . . .

No internal power,
And if your tail is pushed just wrong,
You self-destruct.

You've been hanging on to security,
Like a childhood blanket,
Scared like when we were small
And earth bound tight.

Now you lay your devotions
At the pedestal of Apathy,
Singing I got the get up and go nowhere blues,
Trapped into believing that the secret to flying
Lies under a twist off cap.

Yeah,
You think you've been soaring,
But you've been staring at your shoes,
Through a 3 foot
Cobalt blue bong.

Honey,
You sold your birthright of freedom,
For a bowl of Panama Red.
Stand up straight,
Like you did when you were curious -
Because we have places to explore
And lives to experience.

Refuse to accept our given demise -
Snarl at the indiscriminate loom,
Expecting us to be our own gravediggers . .  .

We are going to stretch wide
And push this envelope to capacity.
We are going to waltz on our graves,
Going to mambo all over these tombs of dead end thinking.
Because we're Boneyard Dancers,
And we've been resting on these tombstones far too long.

"The worst of what people do to one another is deceive.
Because when you love someone you control their version
of reality. If you lie to them that's like making them
autistic so that what they believe is reality is in fact,
not their true situation at all.

Interesting title.  The imagery is pretty strong in this piece. You have a good poetic style I think.
