Seventeen years old,
And still "Daddy’s little girl”.

Not much I can say,
Not much that can be done.

I want to go out and run around,
But father just doesn’t want to let go.

Still loving Papa,
Growing to love another.

Father just doesn’t
And can't understand.

How can I tell him,
That I love Andrew?

Graduation is coming up,
Gotta let him know.

Why doesn’t it show,
That I care for him so?

My heart was in Papa’s hands,
But Andrew stole it away.

Now Papa is left wondering,
Just where his little girl went…

Hi Tamma,
I liked the bare-bones simplicity of this, and that's a compliment. A good question you raise in this poem, too. When is it time for parents to let go? I'll tell you one thing, though; growing up in a very unstable family, I wish I'd had a little more structure. But everybody wants to be somebody else -- I'm sure if I HAD grown up more stable, I'd long for chaos. Who knows.

Liked the poem.

Mike

I had a seventeen year old daughter and I can tell you that a father wants to protect his daughter, sometimes to a fault. His protection of you tells of how much he loves you.  Letting go is tough, I've been there and know.  But trusting is also important, it goes with loving.  Don't stop communicating, it's the bridge to what you seek.
Gool luck and good writing!

truly tis a hard thing, letting go...but alas, where love is concerned, true heart shall not be denied....

excellent work on expressing yourself..loved it.
