just about where I want to be

0 posted 2000-02-07 10:07 AM

About a month ago, I wrote a poem called "BORED" during biology..Dusk Treader gave the suggestion of entitling one "Ode to Mitosis" So, if ya'll see him around, tell him to look at this one!

Oh Mitosis!
How wonderful it would be!
To actually see you happen
And you for me to see!

You work really hard
With all your scientific plots
For lives to go on living
And all you are is dots

Cells and membranes
Know your job by heart
They sit patiently waiting
For you your job to start

Oh Mitosis!
My life depends on you!
For if you were to quit working
The cells would quit too!

Here ya go DT, hope you like it!

scg: i like this one a lot... dusk did us all a favor in challenging you to write it   *hehe* this poem reminds me of part of a poem i wrote a few years ago... mine was satiric more so than comedic and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense without the rest of the poem, but i thought you might be interested in seeing it... it's about how our society views science as a religion...

Chorus to "Hymn to the Angels of Dust": O Sacred Science

Oh Blessed Biology! How great thou art!
With thy chorus of hold heartbeats breathing groaning singing! Save us
with thy eucharist of flesh bone blood!
Oh Holy Physics! Have mercy on us!
Saint Newton give us peace – give us wisdom in the form of
objectivity, Almighty Einstein – open our eyes to the truths of blind
acceptance,
Oh Sanctified Chemistry! In all your majesty!
The sacred altar of test-tube racks and acid/ base mixtures, holy
poisons – a new Creator – invention and discovery are the greatest goods!
Oh Divine Technology! Sweet, graceful Machine!
Singing the strange sweet psalm of automation and churning metal, we
bow to thee, oh Most High! Keep us safely in your iron palm, may we always
be one with thy cold-steel-oiled heart!
    Amen and Amen!

sincerely,
jerome the mysterious priest

A savage place! as holy and enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover!

Hehe,
Oh Sanctified Chemistry! In all your majesty!
