California! Yeah! Okay, I'm done now

Wish, hope, and dream upon a star
There was once was a happy place
Teasingly called Heart
Such a bright, warm and thriving utopia
You must wonder what could make them smile
With such simple, driving passion
Gained just by breathing their love's name
Through soft lips and echoing through wistful eyes
In this gentle, yet powerful, paradise called Heart

Outside these crystalline walls darkness trembles
Larger eyes than the evening sky, hair cascading like an ebony waterfall
She hides just outside the city gates, circling like a raven
She is a grey, dull child
But there is a wisdom and power boiling inside her empty body
Beautiful and yet despising
If you touched her skin
There would be a fiery winter burning in her blood
Her presence is intoxicating
And she's never been given a name
None known

Wanderers near, far and so close from the eternity seperating them
She's whispering a sad siren song
Enchanting your breath away as the people of Heart gather the travelers
Hiding them away from the ghostly girl who always sang like a lost fallen angel
So dark, beautiful and yet dangerous beyond comprehension
Her eyes are greedily drinking their attention
Dulling when they look away
And she sings again softly
As the shadows stop to cry

One Wanderer stopped, staring at her like a man lost in a dreary dream
Caressing a nightmare
For she seemed so sad that her song ate away at herself
And its echoes tore through others with a tiger's teeth
Approaching, drawing closer,
He's so close now to observe the maiden intensely
She looks at him
Eyes like wide pools of inky tears, shadows and pains beyond understanding
And wonderfully, he smiled and held out arms to embrace
Expecting her to laugh and dance into his love

She looks at him, blinking at the light of his happiness
Returning her forlorn gaze to Heart again
She begins to sing quietly, despair dripping from her lips
The maiden remembered this scene
She remembered the ending to that fantasy
So she sang for the love she had lost and the emptiness she felt
Hoping someone would understand how hurt she was
Never noticing and yet hearing every sigh as he walked away

The mist is grey, full of dancing shadows and lights that forever tease
The city of Heart was a place of laughter, sunshine and love
Yet outside, not so far from reach, was a darker place
That made others sing, sigh and cry so helplessly
The wanderers gathered to name this area into their maps and minds
Argued between Loss and Despair
But it was that same man before who spoke a word
Describing the best and worst thing of that path
It encompassed all its tears, aches and abysses
But never amounted to enough as its depth deepened beyond exploration
And so they marked into their own love that boundry beyond Heart
Loneliness

"Sometimes stars can only be seen in darkness."

"Sorrow's crown of sorrow is remembering happier things."

i really enjoyed reading this poem, it reminded me of one of a part from the Odyse,
i love the way you made "heart" a place and described it, don't think i've ever seen that done before,

may i ask what inspired this poem?  just for curiosity's sake.

What inspired this poem?  It's what always inspires my poetry: unrequited love.  Memories of my own cherished heart cutting relationship and its eventual downfall.  Listening to others or just fantasizing.  We all want to go back to a place called Heart once we leave it for Loneliness, where you cannot escape until someone is there to show you the way.  And sometimes, you just have to take that chance.
