I just recently became interested in poetry, with the recent advent of a love interest in my life, which did not work out. I must say I enjoy reading the poetry here, and I would like to share 2 of my own that I just wrote. I am very new to this, so any constructive criticism would be welcomed.

I, The Chameleon

I, the Chameleon, forever changing my color to match my surroundings
When amidst strangers, I lose all color and become invisible
I never speak unless spoken to, I barely exist
When among friends, I share their colors
I act as they act, like what they like
When with my peers, I change colors seemingly at random
I know not what to say, nor what to do
When in the presence of an ally teacher, I am bright white
I am intelligent and cocky, intent on knowing the correct answer
When an enemy teacher draws near, I become purple with yellow polka dots
I stick out in the class, acting much like a court jester
When my family surrounds me, I turn a vile shade of green
I am greedy and selfish, caring only for myself
When children are playing, I turn baby blue
I am playful and curious, happily entertaining the young ones
When the object of my affection is in sight, I turn an odd shade of red
I try to show my affection, but find it difficult with this new color
When I am alone, I turn a dark gloomy black
I feel empty and worthless, needing someone to draw strength from
I, the Chameleon, master of my surroundings
I, the Chameleon, always you and never I

Dreams…..

In dreams anything may happen
In dreams you can fly away from anything that might hurt you
In dreams you can confront all evils that prey upon you
In dreams everything seems unreal
In dreams anything may happen

Life is full of impossibilities
Life is full of rules and boundaries
Life limits everything
Life seems all too real
Life is full of impossibilities

Sleep brings limitless happiness
Life brings limitless dread

Life seems as though it is a dream, unreal with dread and heartache
The fine line between the two fades
The only defining feature is measured in happiness

Maybe real life is turning into a dream
Maybe the dreams are becoming real
The nightmare is not ending
Maybe I can fly….
Fly away from it all…

Exellent work!  Welcome to passions, I look forward to more!

Like a gust of wind, ne'er trapped in a snare,
Like a lotus blossom, ne'er sprinkled by water,
Let me, like a unicorn, in solitude roam.*~ Hymn Of Buddha

Welcome Mistikman! I am glad you recently became interested in poetry because we love to have new people here.  The more people the more posts, and the more we all learn. For your first poems posted, they were pretty good.  I really like the one about the chameleon.  I feel the same way. I to sorta put on an occational mask around people I don't know and try to just fit in with a crowd.  In all,  good job.  I hope you enjoy yourself at passions.  you see... were all a big family here.  WELCOME!

Heh, glad you guys like my poetry, from the sounds of it you like it more than I do   I read some of the stuff on the page and I finish it with a feeling of awe, and my mine seems rather mediocre in comparison.

I may or may not be posting on this board regularly (depends how deep I get into the poetry) but I figured I might as well somewhat introduce myself.

I am a 17 year old male living in California. I suffer from chronic depression, and recently took a strong interest in someone at my school, almost to the point of obsession. She did not share like feelings, and just yesterday she informed me that she did not want to see me, so....... I was kinda destroyed. I immediately came to this website for comfort, and it helped a little. I cant get her out of my head though. My mind says it was over before it started and I should move on, but my heart refuses to let go...  I have been formulating a poem to go along with all this, maybe ill post it up in a little while.

Lets see, what else? hrm.... Im kind of a loner, the only place I am truly happy is the anonymity of the internet. I am an Honors student with multiple awards I guess you would call them. I listen to Classical and Heavy Metal when it comes to music. Some think that Heavy Metal is just noise and an insult to music, but I challenge any of them to listen to Fade to Black by Metallica and really pay attention to the words. That one song came closer to showing my depression than anything I have seen since.

Well, if theres anything else anyone wants to know about me, other than my name and address , heh, feel free to ask

Hey! Those are some really good poems. I can relate to them really well. I, too, am in a difficult love situation. Best of luck to you!
