A single candle all worn down, thr red wax dripping upon my sheet,
The red wax like the pure, flowing sweet blood my heart once knew.

I sit here alone, your love is without these walls, these dismal planks of timber,
Say now my dear, why have you gone from me my heart?

I yet desire a last kiss upon your soft sweet lips, yet all I give is my own contented sigh,
For no more I shall see of you my love, hence two score passes since for you I last cried.

And now this hair is olden gray, my heart now frozen like damp snow,
And how the wind does now blow my darling, and not warm am I, even for the heavy blankets I do wear upon my wintry soul.

Here I sit upon my stool, thinking of your last kind words,
"Love me darling, forever more, my heart disappears not with this world, take heed in my passing, for before your eyes your world unfurls."

I sit and shed one single tear, neither for shame nor for sorrow, but for guilt I now do bear,
And I remember how your hair, yes, it did so glitter in the springtime sun.

And the garden path we walked together, yet now worn away and overgrown,
You did so love the nature, the simple love for being alive.

But now you have left from this world, now was years in the past,
How were those simple pleasures we once knew, so childish and silly to mature souls?

I must speak to you my dear, yet in the tomb you may lie,
Please allow me to speak to my life, my love, my heart, my one and only pride!

Oh God, please, I am on my knees, I cry more tears now out of pain,
My gut is wrenched in awful agony, surely you must see me cry!

Oh please dear God, mercy have you not with a soul like me?
Are you unfeeling and unknowing in my need! Have you nothing left for me?

I clasp my hands so tight in prayer, I fear now that they may bleed!
Oh please my father, one last chance, please my father speak onto me!

And only chill winds sweep through the night, and the snow falling upon the earth,
God's angel, Death, came to reply, and now I rest for eternity, my soul once held unknown worth.
