We were born in chains
Shackled by Mother England
We had the chance to
Finally have freedom but
Woe, we’ve been captive too long

PS. This is my first try at tanka form (5 syllables, 7, 5, 7, 7)
PPS. The subject is the result of our republic referendum, last week

~What if you slept? What if, in your sleep, you dreamed? And in your dream, you went to heaven and there plucked a strange and beautiful flower? And what if, when you awoke, you had that flower in your hand? Aye, what then?~

I do not know of the form you have attempted here, therefore can not comment on that.

I have heard of the vote that took place in your country. I think you captured your thoughts very well in this piece.
