That place with padded walls and funny people in white.........

0 posted 1999-10-16 07:53 PM

Well, this isn't a poem, but Im posting it anyway, in hopes Ryan won't move it. I haven't posted or even been in Teen forum since it was replaced by 2, and I am horrified by what I see here!! Multiple postings....and a poem with more than 2 replies is rare! At least half of the ones I see here on page 1 have 0 replies....Has this become just a race to see who can post the next poem? I know this should probably be addressed in The Alley, but I've never seen a single name in here in the Alley, so I doubt it would make a difference.

My point is, if you care about this forum, and want replies, you should be courteous, and reply to others! There have been topics about this in The Alley, and another discussion forum, I can't remembver which one right now, by both Christopher and Micheal. I quit posting here because of what seemed to be a general lack of maturity with the exception of a few people....and it seems to have only gotten worse.

As has been stated before, this is an INTERACTIVE FORUM. Which means people should interact. If any of you decide to visit any of the other forums, You'll notice that there is rarely a poem with 0 replies, and people share opinions, good and bad, openly and (usually) courteously. Let's see if we can't acheive that here.

I may have just wasted time writing this, but if you have an opinion on the subject, feel free to reply.

Thanks.

well sometimes.. i read everything.. i just dont have time or words to respond... so i'm kinda stuck.. but i do appreciate all the responses i get... so i'll try my best to reply.. and when something really hits me, i always respond...
and the fact that 6 different poems by the same author... its kinda hard to reply then.. maybe when its one at a time... its easier... just so its not as intimidating... just a suggestion...

I know just what you mean, when I get the time I try to reply and tell others what I think of all the wonderful poems that have been written. I also know how it feels not to have anyone reply, almost as if noone cares about how you are trying to express yourself. Thanks for bringing it up, we all really do need to work on trying to communicate more. On with the show.......

I totally agree. I have posted a few poems in here and have gotten only 2 responses. I mostly post in Open Poetry #3, but sometimes I feel like posting here. But I seldom do it anymore because of the lack of responses. I do try how ever to respond to poems when I have the time.

Thanks everyone for replying. Im hoping this post will get people off their asses, and back into the habit of replying. I hate to see a forum just be given up on. But my question is...where the hell is Ryan? He's the moderator....isn't this his job? I emailed him a few days ago, and got no response. Is he lost in lala land or something? I mean Ive only read one post by him.....ever..... anyone know anything?

Well, as for the Alley, I also saw these on there, and have noticed the same thing. I've been kinda busy the past week, but I've still maintained at least close to a 1:1 ratio, which still isn't very good, but I intend to start replying a lot myself again starting this next week when my exam schedule clears up again.
But you are definitely right SD, It's probably best if you post, at most, 3 poems at one time. Also, try to respond to at least 2 poems for every one you post. WE're all here to get feedback, and if we're all just posting new poems and not looking at anyone else's, then no one's gonna be happy.

Ok, Im putting this one back up to the top so perhaps more people can read it, and get my point.

As of right now, aside from a few poems with 5 or 6 replies....almost everyone here has only one reply. It seems to me that if everyone posts twice as many replies replies than poems they post, everyone should have AT LEAST 2 replies....and twice as many replies is a very minimal number...I personally reply to probably anywhere between 20 and 30 poems daily, while posting, at the most, 3, scattered about in different forums. So basically, I reply tenfold.

It seems to me that if you have enough time to write a poem, you are able to reply to at least two or three others. PLEASE PEOPLE!!! I am trying to keep Teen#2 alive...couldn't I have a few helping hands?

Ok.. I'm gonna put my two cents in here.. I am not a teen, (29 in case anybody was wondering) but I remember what it was like to write as a teen. Maybe.. and this is just my opinion, we could encourage some of the more seasoned poets to come here and respond to the poetry. Not post, just respond. It might give some more experienced suggestion to the new poets and help them to grow poetically. Again.. this is just my opinion.

Lucie, i think that is a great idea, because there seems to be a major lack of replies in here. Thanks.

Maybe the prob is that when ppl see no replies on a topic, they automatically assume, that the topic isnt worth replying to. PPl dont post enough poems to reply to, so im gonna try to post more of the rescent poems I've written.

Olga, the problem is not a lack of poems. People posting many poems without replying is a big problem. It is very discourteous. If I see multiple posts by a poet, it greatly reduces my chances of replying to them.

On the other hand, I don't know how you feel, but I try to read poems with no replies before I will read a poem with replies, because I know the sinking feeling of getting no replies to a poem I know is good. If it were true that poems with no replies are not worth reading, then everytime we post a new poem, it is not worth reading.

And how can you say people don't post enough poems to reply to? No offense, but as Ive noticed you hardly reply to poetry, you really don't have a pot to piss in here. In teen2 alone, I'm guessing there are a huindred poems or more. Look in OP3 once in awhile. There are thousands and thousands of poems there. And how about in Dark Passions. I've noticed that you post there, but don't reply....

All I'm saying is that once you've replied to the tens of thousands of poems here in the forums, and all the topics in the discussion forums, THEN you can say there are not enough poems to reply to.

I hope you will think about this, and reevaluate your views. Thank you.

I have read this forum for a long time, for some strange reason I have never replied, maybe it’s the fact that like Lucie I am not a ‘teen’. The idea of older poets replying in this forum seems an excellent idea, I for one am willing to reply here providing everyone understands that adult replies sometimes contain constructive criticism as well as congratulations!

It may be a good idea to take a leaf out of the open forum and appoint two more moderators for this forum. The job shared by three people would ease the pressure on the moderators time and give extra perspectives of what is going on and what needs to be done to maintain the high standards in this forum.

At the end of the day it’s up to you, if you want us old folks to reply ask and we will come, if you want more moderators suggest it to Ron.

Amy...I am one of the old people and I came into Teen because of your post in the Alley. If you would like me too I would be glad to read and respond to the poems written here. I have never wandered into teen because I am not one. If the youth here would like me to post replies...please let me know. It would be my pleasure to read here.
