Snortling and Snuffling
by Richard Budig 1996

Beware.
The beast of the night
Is loose again. If you listen,
You may hear him
Snortling through the shadows,
Snuffling beneath your window
In the dry leaves that gather
Like all your lost homework papers.
And if you go on creeping toe,
And hold your breath
Until you see stars in your head,
And peer into that pool of light
That puddles in the dark below,
You may catch the glint of his eye
As he roots among your secrets
With spiky things sticking up,
And little ears that twitch,
And something that grinds
Against the bricks of your house,
Down there,
Just where
The basement begins.

Critic, if you ever have something useful to say about this poem, we'll be happy to hear it... (Ron)

Too bad the "critic" doesn't post except to critique?....Then maybe we could all be critics?....Maybe ya should be the moderator for the Critical Analysis board? BTW....what's "attemp?".......

Broker: None of us know who the Critic is because they decline to leave a legitimate email address.... only the occasional snide comment. Please don't judge us all by such rudeness.

I like this, its not meant to rhyme (poetry does not have to) and your choice of style for this piece is ok.

Robert

Great poem. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Of course it didn't scare me...only girls would be scared of that ol' thing. :-}

Welcome Richard! Excellent choice for a title, and I enjoyed the read, too! Looking forward to reading more of your work.

Oh and don't give another thought to The Critic. We never do!
