Dust coats the rafters
and paints the glass smile
of a man soft and gray
His cheeks are pink
his eyes blue
he is young

He had fallen into wrinkles
when I knew him
and there was no shine
across his forehead
His blue eyes had folded

I never thought that
the man I knew
could be in blossom
with such color
As I looked at him
before the years and death
had touched him
I saw his son
and mourned
