Eyes deep black as the darkest night
I'll lie beside you till morning light
Face nestled below my chin
Waiting for dawn to begin

Ten years I have held you oh so near
You chase away my darkest fear
I feel your breath against my skin
And let the nighttime close on in

So many nights on you shoulder I cried
For every heartbreak you've been at my side
You've seen me at my worst, my best
You are the leader of all the rest

At morning light you curl right up
Reminding me of you as a pup
You look at me as if to say
In bed is where you'd rather stay

Well Colin, my Prince my Knight
Sorry you're going to lose this fight
Up! Off the bed! Come on let's go
Go and play out in the snow!

You’re the leader of this pack
At your growl all jump back
Silver and black, a scent that’s musky
My heart and soul, my Siberian Husky

Excellent tribute to a true alpha, dear friend. He is certainly a good boy, though I think he takes his job as leader a bit too seriously.

Good job, excellent tribute to "man's best friend". Indeed, your prince and knight.

Nice one. Obviously he is more than a pet. Thank you for sharing this so beautifully.

Spoiled indeed! I still say you need your own seperate cot.....they can have the bed! LOL Very nice poem. it is stately and beautiful, just like the husky is.

You have made me miss the dogs that I have had in the past. In California, the shaking of the bed I know now is from an earth quake and not my friends chasing fleas.

Very nice. I never knew the love for an animal until my daughter got her cocker spaniel puppy and she (the dog) is now 1 year old. It's hard for me to believe that I now let this dog sleep with me. She even has to have her head on a pillow! She thinks she is human. But then, that's probably why I love her so much more than any of the other dogs we have had. I think of her as a kid not a dog. Well, somewhat.
Anyway, I really enjoyed your poem.

I do love this Watcher! I am a "dog person" through and through...and soooo lonely for my baby! (I left him with my ex and his dog...I couldn't bear to split the two dogs up, and he has all those woods to run in up there) I drive 100 miles regularly to visit him...yep, I know just how you feel about Colin!
Great poem!

There are a lot of us animal lovers out here - we're always amazed at what our own Abby gets away with! I'm also a cat lover and believe the two species get along together - when raised right. However, hubby is allergic [he says] to the feline persuasion, so I'll just have to make do.

Good poem, thanks for sharing!
