Letting Go

The day my brother got married,
I gave up my position
as the Number One woman in his life.
That honor was passed
to his lovely bride, my new sister.

How do I describe the feelings I felt that day?
Watching him give his heart, his life to her?
A thousand memories of my baby brother
Whipped through my mind
As I pinned the boutonniere onto his tux.
That little boy no longer is.
He’s been replaced by the man who
Stood on that altar
And vowed to love, honor, and cherish
The angel who touched his life.

I never knew how hard it would be
to let go.
To give him to her.

It is written:
And the two shall become one flesh.
So it shall be.

The message is presented well, my friend.

Very touching. I know that feeling. My youngest daughter got married in May and my oldest daughter is getting married in December. It is so hard to let those 'little ones' go. *tears*

Certainly, "Letting Go" is a most appropriate title. I may be a man but this wedding made me want to cry...but as the two become by God, you have not lost a brother but gained a sister and yet the memory of who he was before becomes so much stronger.
Wonderful poem, Tara.

Julie, somehow there is a way to post a picture with a poem, though I do not know how. I would love to put it with this. As you said, a classic!

Michael, thank you for your kind words. I was not prepared for how emotional it would be for me. The intensity of my feelings overwhelmed me that day.

In my scrapbook, there is a picture of me at the wedding rehearsal. I'm sitting next to my brother in the pew as he takes a break. My arm is around him protectively. I captioned it "Holding on". On his wedding day, there was a picture taken as I straightened the line of his tux, and leaned in for a kiss. It's captioned "Letting go."

This poem is near and dear to my heart, as are my brother and sister in law. I hope they like it when they see it.

I had to let go of my little brother as well..I wish it was to marriage. He left to the army and with no one to run to when I'm scared at night. Think of all the little blessings your new sister might one day bring to this earth....while I think and pray that my brother is safe...where ever he's at.

Miriam, my brother is also in the armed forces. He joined the Navy right out of high school. There have been times when his service has worried me (everytime we get into a new conflict with another country). But his choice to serve our country has always made me PROUD. Were it not for the brave souls who enlist, where would we be?

Tara...Loved this....it is hard to watch life, family and friends grow....I can't imagine watching my son and daughter marry off and start their own lives. Life's not easy...but it's a sure thing if we're lucky. It is hard to watch these things pass, but harder when death defeats youth before they can start their lives. I guess if ya look at the alternatives, it's great to be able to see these things take place....so many have to endure the alternative....!

Beautiul Tara....I have an older brother who will be getting married soon, and the thought of it tears me apart. His soon to be wife is a great person though. She's already like a sister to me.

NOT IN VAIN
If I can stop one heart from breaking
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life
from aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Into his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

Toe, how true. It's a rite of passage, watching those you love grow up and move on. Hard to handle, but necessary.

Thank you all for your comments.
