Before I begin let me say that first this is a true story that happened about the beginning of Sept. At the end I will tell you "the rest of the story".

It's eleven at nite and had just taken a shower
Sitting in a towel, brushing my hair.
The front door opens, a man alcohol-powered,
Steps in, looks around, and sees me there.

"What the hell!" I yelled in a panicked shriek.
"Get out of my house, you miserable jerk!!"
He leaves with apologies. Oh man what a freak!
He had the wrong place through his drunken murk.

At 1a.m. I heard a loud engine at idle
Lights are a-dancin' on my bedroom wall.
I get up slowly, over to the window I sidle.
I peeked out to see an ambulance call.

Police and detectives are outside on the lawn,
Along with some people that live next door.
I went out in p.j.'s, sat on the porch til dawn,
To find out what happened, I wanted to know more.

The news came out slowly from the people out there.
Their friend had been stabbed by an irate ex.
The man who'd entered my home 2 hours before,
Had stabbed her....the result of drugs and sex.

There was screaming and crying... he'd run away.
Cops were searching trees, bushes and streets.
They found his drunken ass the following day,
Hiding in some bushes where all the druggies meet.

His ex lay in critical from eleven stab wounds.
He lay in county with three hots and a cot.
She was struggling...her life possibly doomed.
He couldn't remember what the night had wrought.

The news crews pulled up to ask what went on.
They knocked on my door seeking answers.
The cameraman said "This is how it's done."
The reporter was tiny, built like a tiny dancer.

They asked if I knew them, I had to say "No."
Have there been any problems that you've heard?
" I just moved in little more than a month ago
And I don't pay much attention to my neighbors words."

They went on and on, my face made the news.
I ruefully thought, "There's my 15 of fame."
After they left, I spent some time to sit and muse,
Ya know....I never even knew their names.

After 9 days in the hospital she was released and she moved from our neighborhood. Her ex is still in jail awaiting trial. Found out later that he'd done this before and she forgave him. This time I think he's gonna do a little more than the six months he did last time.

Life can sure be frightening. Glad you weren't hurt and glad your neighbor survived.

Thanks to all of you. I feel very blessed that no harm came to my home and family throughout all of this as the outcome could have been much different. I have a tendency sometimes to be too idealistic and would hope that these things wouldn't happen at all. Thanks for your kind words.
