Walking through the idled throng,
Surrounded on all sides
By a streaming mass of people
Who will not halt their strides.

I look to see the eyes of each
but none will meet my stare.
Twould seem that one could easily
Catch my fleeting glare.

What hatred do I harbor for
These sheep without a flock,
Led about by their purse strings
Like cattle-branded stock?

Should be pity that I feel
And yet there's no remorse
For I was once just like they
Guided on my course.

No single thought nor ray of light
No original self at all.
What keeps them all suspended
And protects them from a fall?

It must be that God loves them
Even though they do not care.
It's hard to see Him in their eyes
behind that vacant stare.

I stop and then I wonder now
How could I make them see?
How could I wake them from their sleep
And make them all like me?

And then I realize what God said
About their fatal course:
Tis not for me to make them choose
It must be their own choice.

Excellent verse with a strong message. A poem needs no more than that. Well done.

To all...thanks. To PFF: What did you think it was about? You've been hanging out in Adult too much.

What a poem and what a message...yes, everyone has to live their own life, no matter how much we might disagree

Wow, Indeed. Unlike Femme, for some reason I knew exactly (or at least instinctively first thought of) what the title was implying before I even read it...but you did a superb job delivering the message. Great poem, Robert.
