The saddest time we face in life
Is not the funeral bier,
Nor when our courage fails us-
When tested by life's fires....
The saddest time in life, I think-
Is when we realize...
We've lost capacity to love-
The soul inside us dies.
We find that only pain remains-
No single spark of joy..
Nor can we ease the agony
By methods we employ.
Romance, at best, is bitter-sweet
But, oh, how sad the case-
When all the sweetness of our lives
The bitter does erase.
'Tis then we face the awful truth
All hope for peace is gone,
And only twisty paths remain
Which we must walk alone...
'Tis then we take the backward glance
And murmur with a sigh-
A pity I have lived this long..
'Tis better far to die.

GS: I echo the Lady Hoot... It seems there's a new gun in town and he's got a quick draw with a sure aim. Like the style, flow, and message. Top shelf material.

Great job GS. I don't think the soul dies forever, just goes into temporary hibernation.

Your words have a ring of truth to them, although I agree with Isis that the soul never really dies....this is very impressive, it made me think.
