A full moon was overhead
The stars were shining bright.
I wrapped up in my blanket
As I sat by firelight.

Thoughts were tumbling through my head
Some pleasant came to mind.
Then I laid back on my hands
To let my thoughts unwind.

I gazed into the fire
And my thoughts, they wandered off.
I slowly closed my eyes, in warmth
I must have dozed right off.

I drifted off back to a time
When their was you and me.
Thoughts of all the times we had
And how things used to be.

We'd slip out of the party
To go unnoticed we tried.
Jump upon your motorcycle
And the two of us would ride.

The wind whipping through our hair
And I would hold on tight,
As we drove on carelessly
It all just felt so right.

You'd wait for me after school
Everyday you'd walk with me,
And when I looked into your eyes
My knees got weak and wobbly.

All those times you sang to me
The times we sat and talked.
Do you know just what they meant
Or would you now be shocked?

Never really quite lovers
But so much more than friends.
To this day I think of you
Wondering how it came to end.

The memories I have of you
They're really all quite fond.
I remember those soft blue eyes
The color of your hair was blonde.

You stood over 6 feet tall
I was small compared to you.
It really didn't matter though
I loved you and still do.

Many years I haven't seen you
Though I do know where you are.
You cross my mind quite often
From my thoughts your never far.

I wonder if you think of me
And of the times we had.
I wonder if you miss me now
And does it make you sad?

Every now and then I call
To see how you are doing.
When your mom speaks of you
My heart starts strongly beating.

Times I didn't want to see you
Because the hurt inside I felt.
But everytime I saw your eyes
My heart would simply melt.

I know that you are married now
Living somewhere in this state.
I wonder if we'll meet again
It's a day I long await!

I could have had your number
It was difficult to say no.
Didn't want to cause you trouble
So I said I must now go.

Sometimes I want to tell you
Just how it is I feel.
I wonder if I saw you
Would these feelings still be real?

I have to ask myself how many times I remembered high school romances while reading your poem. Although there were not a great number, few bring to mind the same sentiment that you express. Of those, none are still known to me. And of course now they all have my wife's face. hmmmm....maybe I should write that one.

What this stirs in me is a sense of loss and regret for those that have gone before me into the void. Well and truly written my friend.

First loves may not always have been the best but they were always the first. That alone makes them special.

The last line is quite the question, right up there with the chicken and the egg thing. Everyone will have a different story, but who really knows of yours. You will always love the memories, I can answer that much...How exhillerating those days were.

made me remember my first sensetive crime, on a punt in oxford with a dear boy called eric. i often wander where eric is now and if his family ever found out, thank god mine didn't my father says he wants to "string up all those f****** homo's by the b******* and stab them with cocktail sticks. he just doesn't understand that a love of the fleshcan encompass all types. how sad it makes me.

Balladeer you got that right. I can't say he was the best by far. He hurt me quite a bit by the things he did, though I don't think he was aware of it. Though I did have fun, and he was well, kind of my best bud at the time. We did have some good times!

Tori thank you so much! I'm afraid of that happening if I saw him. I don't think I'd trade my mine in after all these years though, for him anyway!

Michael, exhilerating? YEP! I can answer that chicken and that the egg thing though!!! HEHE I know the answer. But as far as the last line goes? I can't answer that one, not sure I want to.

Starchild, sounds a like wild time! Oh, I don't think I'd want to run into your dad when he was mad, LOL.

ROFL Suthern! We all need to drift sometimes
don't we? I thank you so immensely for your wonderful comment Suthern! Glad you enjoyed it so much! Now you're gonna have to write about what is was you was thinkin while you were drifting there eh? LOL Thanks!
