On hearing news of grandmother's dying
The heaviness in my heart quickly grew
Mercifully my wife eased my crying
As i asked her who died but i knew

The short second running names in my head
It wasn't her she means so much to me
Some dark thoughts who it could be instead
My in-laws or my step child it could be

Hiding the thought of my step child dying
Might not my in-laws for a smile to find
My new family ever I'm trying
To hold dear like the ones I left behind

My father's resthome and grampa's all alone
But momma and grandmomma are together
In these few years my family has grown
Though it's sad the reunion is forever

Lovely poem, Walt. Grandmothers can have a very special place in our heart. Mine does.

You have my sympathy, Walt... And if it's selfish to hope against hope it's not about someone beloved when we know we're getting bad news, then we're all guilty of being selfish.

I hope you had time to say what you should have said...

and let this be a message to all who haven't yet said what needs to be said.

Thank you for sharing Walt. I hope all of your memories of her are precious ones.

Good job Walt..It comes natrual, with out guilt to feel that its happend to someone else when we loose the ones we love.
I'm sure she sends a smile with the warmth of the sun to show how proud that you've made her..

Walt: I guess the blessing is that two people are now at peace and with each other...

Hugs to you and your wife, sweetheart

My deepest sympathies too Walt. My Grandmother died 20 years ago and I still miss her. I felt cheated of my time with her since I was only 12 at the time. So sad.
She would love your poem.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know it's tough.
You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. And don't be so tough on yourself. Life is hard enough. We can't help how we feel. We can only aspire to change our feelings and you certainly have expressed such a desire.Take care.

Walt, you have my every sympathy on this one...I miss my grandmother terribly sinced she passed. I think we all have a right to be a little selfish there.
