A Single Feather

A tiny white dove
Set out in flight
So warm and trusting
On a deep dark night

Misled by her insticts
Blinded by scorn
She turns the wrong way
Is impaled on a thorn

Impaled on the thorn
Blood stains feathers white
She cries out in pain
Won’t give up the fight

Her right wing's damaged
She is broken and scared
She longs for the safety
That she once shared

Still hope springs eternal
And with one final cry
She loosens herself
And heads for the sky

Battered and bleeding
She holds her head high
For sometimes a single feather
...Is enough to fly

I like this, Ruth, especially the last two stanzas.

A sad poem mixed with beauty, skill and triumph...kinda like life, eh? Nice work, Ruth.

I love the end. Brambles and Thorns and the scorns of life, cannot halt the soul's flight. Keep looking up.

A valuable lesson here, Ruth. An inspiring story well told -- I enjoyed it very much.

Well, this is one of those were just beautiful don't cut it. Such a powerful ending to an otherwise sad poem....the essence of hope portrayed...perfect, Ruth.

I enjoyed reading the soft words of the poem. I find myself thinking about you work unlike alot of others on here who I am sorry to say simply bring me down. You have both a good writing hand and mind owl.
