BY LOVE ALONE

By what foul, strange contingency
Have I failed my astringency?
By what demeanor lay I here,
Asphyxiated in my own fear?
By what inebriated dream,
Ignore I Reality's scream -
Oblivious, the tickling chime,
The, (passing me by), hands of Time.

By what accursed happenstance
Have I come into this Death Dance?
By what scorn, by what ridicule
Have I been deigned Forever's Fool?
By what lack of aspiration,
Don I this exasperation?
By what mental insurrection
Have I befell this deception?

By what lack of morality,
Forfeits spirituality?
By what weak instability
Am I now liability?
By what tangent, running askew,
Is sacrificed all once held true?
By what decadence of belief
Have I been subjected such grief?

By echoes of Malady's call,
‘Tis true, by Love alone, I fall.

Is all that we see or seem
but a dream within a dream?

Wonders will never cease,I pray that someday I can write as well as you do,be it in the light, where you do shine, or here in dark where you are equally at home. Well done as always.

It seems you acutely feel the flip side of love, the ravening beast that slakes its thirst on the soft underbelly exposed by the vulnerability of love. Well said my friend as love has two edges, one that cuts cleanly the ties binding us to bitterness and one that carves away at the soul. I wish you luck in regaining your balance on that blade my friend.

Micheal:

I feel that love is the best thing that can happen to a person, surpassed by hope. Or maybe the two are one and the same..(?) In any case, it is also my feeling that love/hope is suicide. To love or hope, is to send the spirit higher than the clouds. And if the warm winds are ripped from beneath the sould wings, we come crashing down to earth...and this poem illustrates that perfectly.

Pain or no pain - we keep coming back for more... in hopes that the next love will be the right one...

As has been said before, I believe there is a balance here. Would love be near as sweet if it did not hurt so when it was gone? You have a gift for verse, sir. I only hope my pen can approach your own someday.

Excellent! A two-edged sword, indeed. You have swathed a great deal of cold truth in this elegant verse.

Dark master, this is amazing!
I love the depths of your thoughts, never fey, never anile...deep and with heavy meaning!

Without risk of pain, pleasure would be the commonplace and it's value constantly slipping away. Beautiful sentiment.

I've read many of your poems, Michael. This one is, by far, the best. Excellent, excellent work.
