With wings spread wide I fly
Visible only in my minds eye
Soaring, to a gentle glide
Up draft currents that I ride

Golden eyes seeing the world
White tipped feathers uncurled
Piercing shriek loud and clear
The song of flight so very dear

Over Mesa's and mountains I rise
Hidden again in a new guise
Looking through eyes old and wise
Watching for prey to surprise

Free of all life's restraints
Unfettered power a portrait paints
A gentle soul set loose this day
To grow and be all that I may

Chains unbound from prison released
Once shrunken heart is now increased
Breathing in the salty air
Finally free of my darkened lair

Falcon's day has come at last
No more shall I live for the past
Future shinning full and bright
Peregrine's battle cry…Fight!

I truely enjoyed this Watcher. I did not stumble over a single line. The imagery was good and I could see myself soaring.

I really love the imagery here too. I can picture the eyes, the feathers, the mesa's...truly a beautiful poem.

I see you found your totem beast my friend, though I wish you had told me sooner.

The falcon being the fastest bird in nature, reaching a speed of 200 miles per hour in a stoop, well represents you dear friend.

Falcons are a graceful, majestic lot -- and the Peregrine is the most regal of them all. You have done their beauty and spirit justice with this piece; I applaud you.
