Still Here

When freezing drops of rain
linger upon my eyes
I think of tears still trapped
beneath their scabbed cover
which only time will heal
they say

They say a lot it seems
but how much of it is true
an hour has past
a week, a month, a year
yet not a day's gone by
without a thought of you

The light was on
I think
that spark that held me alive
now extinguished
there is always another
they say

another fish another chill
goosebumps upon once living flesh
I'm still in there
somewhere
or perhaps I've flown away
beyond this world of pain

Forced subconscious
into a tiny shell
without the will to weaken
the wall that built itself
for all the world's a play
they say

What a play it is
a tragedy at best
I still lie here
shivering, awake, remembering
How long, I ask
but no one ever answers

Thoughts bound
to other realms now gone
other dreams forgotten
other pleasures lost
Never again
I say

Yes, very sad. Grief can last much longer than assumed. This is an exquisite rendering of grief. Very well done.
