I wrote this for my son who started his very first job as a Denny's dishwasher during the graveyard shift. Needless to say he didn't like it and didn't stay but a month before going on to other employment.

Dish-Dawg Blues

Goin' to work at 10 pee'em
What a time to wake a body up!
Same ol' crap in the ol' dish land.
Rack 'em, wash 'em, and stack 'em up.

I got the dish dawg blues....

Along about 2 it's the drunken crowd
And they all want eggs on their plates.
Some are rude, crude, obnoxious, and loud.
Eggs be a-stickin'..must just be fate.

I got the dish dawg blues...

Somewhere 'round about 4 I gotta clean the can.
My Gawd!!! What a horrible sight!!!
So I clean it all up (even where the soap ran)
And just pray for the end of the night.

I got the dish dawg blues...

Right around 6 my work is all done.
Floors are swept and mopped to a shine.
I pull off my hat and my dirty apron.
Then I sit myself down to dine.

Just singing the dish dawg blues.

Your son is lucky to have you since you understands what its like to have the blues. This was well done--my son has been there, so I know.

Thanks Martie,
I'm a cook at the same Denny's and he was just sooooo miserable. Glad he got this other job. At least he's happier.

Good one, WildChild. It's one of those jobs everybody should have at least once to learn SO much about humanity!

Thanks to all of you. I had fun with this one even if it was at my son's expense. Though he got over it.
