Shadow Cat ('bout my Halloween Pumpkin Patch Cat)

Shadow Cat

ebony and pumpkin colored
specter of tail and hiss
shadowed mouse fatality
sly stalker of noises
ball of purr and soft meow
a contradiction in her own mind

snobbish and aloof
from day to day
sometime cuddler near open fire
basket case of the worst kind
bag, box, tube all fair game
for this shadow cat's peruse
and occasional attack

surprise in the garden patch
to find her nestled in the beans
a golden eye focused as you work
a yawn and dismissal
as back to mouse dreamland she flits
my shadow cat holds my heart
in her be-clawed sometimes friendly paw
