The Pain Of Saying Goodbye (written in collaboration with Tara...thanks Tara!)

I can still see you,
as you looked that day,
getting back on the plane;
blonde hair catching the wind;
blue eyes shinning in the sun,
misting over
with the pain of saying goodbye.

I forced a weak smile from my lips,
blew you a kiss as you boarded.
I watched the plane take off,
soar into the sky;
my best friend leaving me.
I tried to damn the flood of tears
so you couldn’t see my pain.

I left the airport that day,
leaving a part of myself behind.
I turned my back
on the scene of heartbreak.
So much left unsaid,
would I ever have the chance to say it?

You called that night
to let me know that you were okay
and asked me how I was.
I forced the words “fine” off my tongue,
neglecting to say I was dying inside.
I wonder if you felt it too...
the emptiness that comes
with the pain of saying goodbye.

Ruth did the majority of the work on this one, folks! She's amazing.

This brings the pain of parting into crystal clear focus! Great one, you two!

This was a very self-centered poem, Hootessa and Tara. How do you think the person leaving felt when his/her luggage went to Anchorage, Alaska? hmmm??? Now, THAT is pain. Other than that, I really enjoyed this poem. Very sweet.

well done, my friend...it is my habit never to leave the airport till the plane is off the ground...ask my kids, they will tell you...we leave when the plane is gone and not before. Ant parting from a loved one, long term or short, is painful..and it is not the pain I wish to prolong but the joy of being yet in their presence another moment. You relayed the pain of parting very well here...good job! :-)

I'd have to agree with Beki on this one - ask desperado - he was left dangling in Dulles with but a groucho disguise - cuz those crazy poets dropped him off and ran - but he fooled 'em - He came back to play for another day...

Nice poem, Hoot...
