I long ago gave up the pretense

Of caring about what you do

But the scars I bear are burning with

Your cruel pleasure's residue.

I've long since lost that innocence

That I somehow retained as a child

But I'm nearing the approach

And my anger forces me to broach

The subject of that innocence defiled

I scream, I rant and rave

But only in my dreams

The cobwebs of my memories

Are still hanging from the beams

Of the house of my emotions, a turmoil of lies

Empty cries

The darkness sometimes gets to me

But you can't hurt me anymore

You're just a fraud, an acidity

Your poison has sunk so deep

Don't rest easy in your endless sleep-

------------------
The night is my companion
The solitude my guide
Would I spend forever here
And not be satisfied?
Sarah MacLachlan, "Possession"
