Like the jaws of a gator, fans waved their hands.
And 86,000 jammed the stands.
For 30 games they'd won in the Swamp,
They had come to witness another romp.

The Tide would control the clock this day,
And match the Gators play for play,
Up and down the field they moved like the Dow,
Taking chunks of yardage off the arm of Zow.

But at the end of regulation there was something still to settle,
That would surely test these men and their mettle.
The score was tied, no one would leave,
Bama won the toss, Spurrier looked peeved.

Florida scored first and took the lead,
It looked like the Gators were ready to feed.
The scene on the sidelines, not a pretty sight,
When the extra point sailed wide to the right.

Bama's line blew a hole the size of a crater,
Alexander burst through, see ya later alligator.
Touchdown Alabama!! We've just tied the score,
But, we missed the kick, couldn't slam the door.

Then the clouds opened up, and a yellow flag fell,
I wonder who threw it, I couldn't tell.
Then a voice I heard above this din,
"Line up boys, let's do it again."

Off with the visor, who will catch the wrath?
For his team had just taken a Crimson bath.

The "Swamp" is quiet now, shrouded in mist,
The Gators have learned, don't get the Bear pissed!

My brother and I are big Alabama Football fans, and he sent this to me today...It may not make much sense to some of ya.....but, what the hell?..right?

ROFLMAO!!! I should have known that any voice from above in a poem about Alabama football would have to be Mr. Bryant's! LOL

Yanno, sweets... you've ruined me... I used to have a bumper sticker on my refrigerator (I'm blonde... car/refrigerator... they're both big and metal! LOL) that said "I cheer for LSU and anyone playing Alabama!" Because of you, I've become a fan... though I'll still be cheering for the purple and gold when they meet the Tide! *G* (And considering the way LSU is playing, they should simply MEET the Alabama team... not try to play them! LOL)

Once again, my dear friend, you have opened mouth and inserted Toe. Please accept these corrections:

(1) I am from south Florida.

(2) Anyone from south Florida HATES the U. of Fla Gators

(3) Anyone from south Florida HATES Steve Spurrier

(4) South Florida is Miami Hurricane territory (you know, the team that kicked Ohio State's butt...but then the Big 10 is always lousy

(5) What's football?

The poem is great! Definitely a day that will live in infamy for every U of Fla graduate forever. WE LOVE IT!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing this one Toe! Even though I'm blonde, I do understand a teeny-weeny bit of football. Don't like it much, though! Except it does make great background noise for a little nap!

Being the mother of a 'Gator Girl' I have to take offense at this..or is that defense.. or is it off sides..maybe it's clipping...what the heck..I don't understand football (except the part about the guy patting each other's butts..now that's what I would do if I was a football player!...anyway..what was I saying? Oh, yes. My daughter told me we now are going to go to basketball...forget football..so now we talk about dribbling.. traveling... double-teaming...(sounds like my latest dates)...anyway, what was I saying...oh yes..loved the poem!
