Unable to sleep
I walked to the village church
somewhere quiet to go
and there's nowhere left to search

I wasn't even sure if it would be open
but walking is better than pacing
as I tried the door it gave
and I couldn't believe what I was facing

so many candles already alight
representing hope or maybe goodbye
with shaking hands I lit one of my own
that simple act allowed me to cry

Why do we apologise for feeling grief?
the loss of a friend does make me sad
but it also makes me reflect
and treasure again what we both had

Half the battle is in acceptance
your own life still has to be lived
so if I'm smiling I'm smiling for them
in their passing I still need to give

Turning to go back outside
I look once more at candlelight
deep in thought as I walk home
I see the stars sparkle in the night

Somehow I feel better than I did!

Beautifully expressed RG! And-
we feel guilty for grieving because it is a selfish act. We aren't greiving for their pain, because we are probably sure they feel none. Our grief is for OUR loss. We have lost the comfort, caring, friendship, etc, and feel guilty for that selfishness.
BUT... I don't think we should. What else are friend for, but to make you feel good, to provide a shoulder to cry on. Our grieving over the loss of a loved one is a fitting tribute that we should feel no guilt for.
I light a candle for you as well!

As we ourselves are candles, Rainbow. We light up, share our brightness and illumination, and then flicker and dim to die out in the end. The candles are an excellent metaphor for humanity. How sad that some die out before their time. Yours shines brightly, Cindy. Thank you.

RG,

Like I told you before.....you are beautiful.

And I am always here for you.

Sunshine: Thank you...I can probably count on both hands the number of times I have visted a church...there are exceptional times when I feel drawn to the peace and solitude, the time that allows for quiet thoughts and somehow I only get that peace inside that sanctuary..

HUGS

Pepper: Thank you sweetheart...hugs are such a vulnerable yet simple way of saying 'we care'..

HUGS

Christopher: I saw your post and went again this evening and lit another candle from your side of the ocean to this side..bless you!

HUGS

Suthern: The church, the candles and you...

HUSG

Dragoness: Grief if we don't learn to let go can consume us, somehow, we have to enjoy the miracle of life and instead of dying with those we love, we have to live in order to love, all beauty is shown in how we continue to love and to live...hope that makes sense?

HUGS

Iloveit: How well our group knows of what we all feel, indeed, how well *each* of us knows and how lucky we are to share both good and sad times and feel ok about doing so..

HUSG

Balladeer: Thank you for being there for me, for listening to me, for caring and for your time. ..A leopard may never change its spots but a Lion is proud of who he is..

HUSG

Saxoness: Angel, see, your life created the person you are and a lovely person at that..

Free: Paula, If it helps, it took me 9 months of crying to get some semblance of reality back into my life after my father died and I'm going back 17 years...the friends that I'm talking about here go back 27 years but share a different part of my heart, to me, we never grew up but lived in parallel..we seeemed to start each conversation with "remember..."...but it doesn't matter how old the place is that we shared in our heart, it's the fact that we shared and that's what we mourn...the passing of time, the fact that we'll create no more memories together...but, the other side of the coin is that the memories will live on...enjoy them, at some point, that is all we will be, a memory, it is up to each of us to provide a great memory for someone else to hold close in their hearts..

Hugs sweetheart

Cindy

You've been through so much, yet you give hope to so many. You are a saint, and I hope you find all the happiness you deserve. I know you miss your Mum and all the others who have left you. Please keep your star shining bright - it does make a difference to all of us who know you now, and all of those who have yet to meet you.

let me put in my two cents. I don't want to hear that you're sad RG. so if the candles help you then good. Whatever it is your grieving about I'm sorry and know I'm here.

love you.

LJA: Thanks sweetheart, yes, I do miss mum but that was relief from her suffering, so more acceptable...this was just senseless but brings home even more, that life is just too short..

Miriam: Thank you..
