Tomorrow I know what I'll do.
I have a master plan.
I'm going to turn my life around
And be a friend to Man.

Mankind will get my full respect.
I will not be abrupt.
In converstaions with my friends
I will not interrupt.

I will amaze all with my tone
Which shows I truly care
And they'll be glad to have a friend
Like I am standing there.

No sharp remarks or hurtful words,
Rebukes or criticisms
Will I direct toward those I love,
Not even witticisms.

No one will make my temper fly
As it has done before.
Mistakes I'll simply take in stride
Without my normal roar.

When people chance to think of me,
They'll smile that I'm their friend
And know that, in my company,
They'll never need pretend.

Tomorrow, at the crack of dawn,
I'll implement my plan
To be a willing partner in
The brotherhood of Man.

I had these same thoughts yesterday
but it was not my fate.
Alarm clock screwed up once again.
I woke up three hours late!

Some stupid driver cut me off
As I drove in to work.
It seemed the streets were full of nuts
And imbecilic jerks.

My secretary hadn't done
The work she was to do...
Some lame excuse of doctors and
Her small son with the flu.

All day, it seemed, I was the mark
Of some conspiracy
Contrived by evil forces whose
Goal was to bother me!

So, as you see, today was out
But I still have my plan
And tomorrow, when the sun comes up,
I'll be a friend to Man.

Revered Elder, yesterday is always gone, tomorrow never comes, all that we have is today.
Good verse, my friend.

I thought he was finally going to swear off sheep... then all we'd need to do is introduce him to WO-man. *G*

Great poem, 'Deer one... isn't it funny how life keeps getting in the way of our plans? LOL.

Friend - the most beautiful word in the English language. Another triumph, Balladeer! In the grand scheme of things, little irritations during the day seem small and minor - The next time someone cuts you off in traffic, smile....someone does something that angers you...smile...life is too short.

'Deer

This was an excellent poem, full of reality and right on the mark. deVine said it well, too. Well done.

As usual I find the need to reply to your work. It always reflects some sort of kindness, (even about Toe), or tenderness. Even the funny ones!

And he asked, "Lord tell me why I am living?"
Why, to greet the day with poems and thanksgiving.

Sir Balladeer: My thought process on this one runs about the same as Dreams... we only have today and those things we put off till tomorrow we never do. That's the kind of feel I got from this piece and I'm wondering if it was where you were going with it. All the same, I think it speaks for a great many... unfortunate as that may be. As always, thanks for the view.

Ack ... I could never even dream of making a promise like this ... if I can be a friend to everyone in my household, I'm happy ... besides, Balladeer, all the "nuts and imbecilic jerks" on your roads are probably vacationing from my neck of the woods, where they all retired!!

This was entertaining ... thanks for sharing.

Great poem I enjoyed the read. Wish I could feel like you, but when your life revolves around nuts, where is one to start. If you ever feel to overwhelmed with your problems you can come join us, the more the merrier.

Thank you all for your much-appreciated comments.

Andrew, no it wasn't a "putting off today" poem, more like a "leopard can't change his spots" poem. I can remember times in my life, be it jobs, relationships, marriages, friendships or whatever where, after messing it up, I would think "Well, I'll act differently or be different next time". Guess what? Next time came and I was the same person. A shy person may plan on being called 'outgoing' with the next group he gets together with but, more times than not, he will still be considered shy. It's hard for one to change his true nature, wishing to or not. We reach some degree of happiness, I think, when we realize who we are, what our qualities and weaknesses are, and we accept ourselves as such. The character in this poem claimed to want to be considered a friendy sort but was not willing to change any characteristics to achieve that aim. Today, tomorrow or next year, he will always be the same.

Great poem, though I somewhat disagree that people can't change......some people do a complete 180 in personality at some point in their life.....I know examples of this, and I am an example of this

What a wonderful poem. It gave me a smile, as it reminded me of myself. : ) Please remain yourself. What great poetry we would miss otherwise !
