The chilling winds whip through the air;
Perilous patches are - ev'rywhere
And frozen fingers and frozen toes
And frozen ears, oh, my frozen nose!
The freezing rains from the clouds of gray
Have glazed, again, the ground today;
The branches so bare - unoccupied
Look petrified as we slip 'n' slide
All bundled up as we dream of spring
And of all the warmth that spring can bring
-No trace of ice seen on the ground
-Not a single snowflake to be found
-Not a hint of winter - anywhere
Only balmy breezes in the air!

Oh, you can have this frigid chill
Yes, I, for one, have had my fill!

Thank you all for your read and comments!
WhtDove, unlike Mike and Marilyn, I have not seen ice here in Philadelphia, yet! Thursday night though, we will hit the freezing point!
This has been a colder than usual fall here.
This is just one of my views of winter that I was reminded of when I read Balladeer's piece 'Winter-izing' and thought I'd share it!

Thanks again, all!

Well Denise, you painted a lovely picture for this little Aussie who comes from the tropics and has only seen snow once, some 12 years ago. Thanks for the gift my friend..

D: I live in sunny So. Cal. so we don't get all that cold very often. However, I work in an office that is kept at a constant 67 degrees. Right now I'm huddling the paper coming out of our printer for the wormth it provides. Talk about being pathetic... if they would just let me set the place on fire everything would be so much better.
My father-in-law tells a pretty funny story about black ice and how he was passed by his own trailer in Ohio... couldn't imagin it being funny at the time though.

Well done Ms. Denise..I could feel the cold chill bumps! (It couldda been from some of the mean things all these folks like Balladeer, LongJohn and Poet deVine say to me), but I think it was your expert expression of words....

Where I am, it's always warm...at least warmer than you describe so eloquently here. But there's a chill in our air too.. got down to 62 last night...and now that it's 98 during the day, we can turn off our AC!

Thanks for your read and comments, PdV! Did you say you can turn 'off' your A/C when it's 98 degrees?! I don't like the extremes of heat anymore than I like the extremes of the winter! My A/C doesn't go off 'till it's under 80 degrees. But of course we have very high humidity here which makes it verrrry uncomfortable! And living in your typical brick 'rowhouse' which,unfortunately, faces east, we never get any breezes!

Great poem Denise! PDV must live around the corner from me. With the heat wave we had this summer, 98 is a cold front!

Tonight is lovely though...68 and lots of breeze....sleepin' weather

Keep the cold air away from me
it's not good for my arthritic knee,
So Cal winters are the best
a picture post card for the rest.

I enjoyed this poem very much but I don't like to be cold. I think I'll go sit in the sun for awhile.
