once upon a time I knew the game
I knew the words and how to play
the things I thought would be the same
seemed to change like the setting of a day
oh once I was a poet
with words in my mind to speak
once you said I was a "know-it"
and now it seems I'm just a freak
the distance traveled was the square of a heart
a million here a million there so what was the cost
now I'm just a pathetic, proverbial fart
destined to have my words forgotten and lost
oh some will remember my words alright
as they dwell in their old senile age
a victim of the ever present night
the youth will wonder where's their cage
and so I'll pass into the tepid void below
another name on a blurry wall in a focused eye
just another wild oat that should never sow
as the world remembers it's singular simple lie
close your eyes and see the past
it's foggyness is an effect of time
blink your eyes now really fast
and the worlds you see will rhyme
no one sees me as I fail to exsist here and now
a passing thought in the stream of unconsciousness
just a footnote to someones greater glory, just a cow
a simple detail in an otherwise expansive mess
so if you can see you must be blind
for the world has things it cannot see
once a movement kills it's own kind
the last one to notice will always be me

So sad!! Not all of us are destined for greatness, no matter how much we want it. You have had or will have your 15 minutes of farme, it's better than none.
It's only the special few who can make a difference in the world due to words, be they poetry, lyrics, articles whatever.
Hope you don't always feel this way?

Just keep going!!! Someday you may write the world's greatest poetic epic. Life does funny sometimes. Ya just never know.

We've all felt this way sometime. But think of yourself as a grain of sand...all of grains are in this together..you may not stand out..I may not stand out..but together we make a great beach! A poetic beach if you want to think of it like that!

loved the ending, des.

"so if you can see you must be blind
for the world has things it cannot see
once a movement kills it's own kind
the last one to notice will always be me"

so, what you're saying is, you are a poet and you know it and that's not good enough for you? you want FAME along with it? you want to be REMEMBERED for your words, your insight, your wisdom? geez, des, ok. i'll remember ya! I promise!

hehehe.... i "liked" it. "good job"... really i mean it
