It Is You

If I could tear you from my heart I would.
I would do anything to ease this ache
I live with daily,
that gnawing hunger
that whispers in my ear
"he is not here, he is not here."

But the wind that rushes by
is the sound of your name.
I reach to touch that sound
and my arms are like water;
empty, fluid,
longing to hold you.
The rich autumn earth
is the color of your eyes;
deep, soft,
watching every step I take.
The taste of rain on my tongue
is the shape of your mouth;
tender, yielding,
forgiving me with every kiss.

If I could ease this ache
in someone else's arms, I would.
But the only truth I know
is that my heart was made
for loving only one other
in all the world.
It proclaims that truth every night
before I sleep
"it is you, it is you."

thank you Denise..I just wish I could make it LOOK the way I wrote it! so frustrating sometimes......I really believe the shape of a poem is an important part of the whole.

Beki - I really like this. It flows well and you've captured the images incredibly well. I totally agree with you about the shape - it's a great source of frustration to me!

It'd be good, if we could erase the memories sometimes..well done.

Oh, if it were only memories...but my love for this man is as real and strong today as it was 20 years ago......with me always. I think this isone of the most truthful, honest poems I have ever written, Thank you all for reading and commenting.
