as the tide of dawn
crept across the face of the earth
and brought morning, in turn,
to all nations,
there appeared— in every
village, town, and city square—
an indecipherable symbol,
wrought from a material
that no man could name.

and the people emerged
from their homes and their churches,
their offices and schools,
an ocean of faces,
gazing in wonder
at the symbol unknown;
each of them desperate
to call it his own.

jew

fascist
racist
atheist

occultist
buddhist
scientist

capitalist
and communist

stepped up to
claim his destiny,

and couldn’t murder
fast enough

Haskin - nicely put - it does seem we are all too eager to claim ownership to the keys, and take from others what is freely given to all as a way of proving our authority of righteousness. History speaks well of what you suggest.
