First Snowflakes Of Winter

The first snowflakes of Winter fell
Three months early this year.
Shivers and shakes become the hell
Of life frozen in fear.

As a bone chilling scowl lingers,
I watch, aching within -
As love falls from frigid fingers,
And sanctity gives in.

Why couldn't I see it coming?
Oh, the sun seemed so warm.
Love so blinding it was numbing,
I woke up in her storm.

Fury raging in a tempest,
All emotion swirled.
Breaking me at the sightless crest
Of destiny unfurled.

Now, stand I stiff as a statue,
Frostbitten beyond sense.
Iced over in a thought of you,
Smiling in salience.

Within my sight as if in spell,
Majestically and dear...
The first snowflakes of Winter fell
Three months early this year.

I could not love except where Death
Was mingling his with Beauty's breath -
Or hymen, Time, and Destiny
Were stalking between her and me.

I felt a chill as I read this..not for the first snowflake but for the pain herein. I would give anything if you didn't have to go through these feelings.................

You give the word "frigid" a whole range of new meanings my friend.

We share that numbing coldness of soul. Well met once again.

This tore at my heart. Tears fill the eyes. I'm sorry for the sorrow you feel. May it melt away and bring warmth again soon!

The pain was felt throughout this piece. Truly, I wish I could reach through the screen and give you a warm hug.

"life frozen in fear"... Hesitating to breathe, hoping we can be still enough to keep our world from falling apart... I know I can relate... Great poem!

Michael...once again, my heart goes out to you. The saddness in this piece is so overwhelming. I hope spring comes early for you

The snowflakes of winter can fall at any time...beautifully expressed, Michael.

Me thinks your "sunshine" returned just in time!! I am so glad you held on as long as you did, babe...I think your heart knew better than to believe I was gone....I love you. Beautifully chilling - - this was.
