This piece was written for a funeral by visitor request. 'Tis my first such piece

We've come together in celebration,
for a new angel has been granted wings.
Our friend Tom has earned his salvation,
and the heavenly paradise it brings.

In memory of his rich and full life,
all his well-earned praises I will now sing.
With humor he met every pain and strife,
greeting with a smile the sadness they bring.

With practical jokes and crank phone calls,
he touched with laughter his family and friends.
The hmour and joy which this verse recalls,
should fill your heart up with "Remember when's".

Towards his parents he felt more than duty,
for closeness to them was born of respect.
Honoring them was a thing of beauty,
for not once did his parents he neglect.

For the friends he had he was always there,
holding and consoling those he held dear.
Whether pain or joy in all he would share,
laughing with them or soothing away fear.

His most endearing trait was compassion,
which extended to blanket all mankind.
Even when caring seemed out of fashion,
to those who needed it he was not blind.

For these reasons and more his wings were earned,
mostly though for his overwhelming love.
From the gates of heaven he was not turned,
but called to the arms of the Lord above.

This is simply wonderful for such a sorrowful occasion. I can see where it can be redone for female, child, and become a popular piece at funerals.

DE, we're very proud of you.

This was postive and upbeat, Dreamie - so unlike you, but still like you. Nice job.

Positive and upbeat is a really good thing - especially considering the theme...

This is perfect for the occasion! I hope the 'visitor' likes it as much as I did... it's very hard to write for someone else and you did a beautiful job!

I think it is very difficult to write upon request, to try to capture the emotions of someone else. I've never been able to do that. YOU HAVE!! Very well done.
