The trial was for a murder,
...the body never found,
Defense attorney was astute,
...the court he did astound.

It came time for closing,
...to make his final plea,
The lawyer for the killer said,
..."Please look and you will see."

"For through that very courtroom door,
...the victim will appear,
For you see he's still alive."
...A pin drop you could hear.

The door it never opened,
...no victim did they see,
With booming voice the lawyer said,
..."Now set my client free!"

"For you all looked at courtroom door,
...which means you have a doubt,
There is no way you can convict."
...All heard the lawyer shout.

The prosecutor hung his head,
...for he himself had looked,
As for a guilty finding?
...he knew his goose was cooked.

The jury left to take its vote,
...All knew would be short while,
Within five minutes they returned,
...The killer had a smile.

The foreman rose and verdict read,
..."Guilty, Murder One!"
The lawyer for the killer screamed,
..."No, justice must be done!"

"He can't be guilty because you looked,
...he must be innocent!"
The foreman said, "Yes, all did look,
...except your guilty client."

justice is great when it works as it should.

Very clever ending. What made you think up the lawyer's ploy to cast doubt..?

I'll be looking for more of your posts ...
