Still - the sun ascends in the eastern sky
And sets down -still- in the west it's true
Still songbirds warble softly, too
Yes, even still - yet I don't know why.

Ah, the autumn still brings its brilliant hue
Yes and still the winter brings its chill
Flowers form in the springtime - still
Yes, still - but I don't know why, do you?

Still - the cotton fluffs fill the azure sky
And the waves still crash onto the shore
Even still - as they did before
Yes, even now - still I don't know why.

Still - the moon beams bright in the ev'ning sky
Still - eagles nest on the snow-capt crest
...My heart still beats beneath my breast
Yes, even still - yet I don't know why.

Oh, don't they know - you're no longer here?
I think it should be so crystal-clear
That things can't ever be as before;
No nothing is the same anymore.

Still - on they go just as before;
Still - nothing is the same anymore.

For you, Dad, with all my love.

.....and so life goes. I,too, have expected the birds to stop singing....but they don't and perhaps it is just as well. He wouldn't have wanted them to.

Again, beautifully done.

No, he wouldn't have wanted them to. You are absolutely right! I guess we all think we are ready for the inevitable, but when it happens we find that we weren't after all. We always hope for one more day (one more year or so is more like it!) Thank you Balladeer for reading and commenting. It is much appreciated!

Beautiful, yet sad work, dsnyder...it sort of reminds me of the song "The End of The World"...exellently done.

Thank you Alwye for reading and commenting. This is one from my 'sad' period. Yet, one of my favorites. I'm glad you thought it was good.

Great job. I absolutely loved it. Life always goes on even when our heart lags behind in mourning. I agree nothing can ever be the same.

Nothing ever is the same after a loved one dies. It's strange that you should be posting these now, because the second anniversary of the death of someone I knew will be tomorrow. Is it also the anniversary of your father's passing? This poem also was beautiful. Thanks again.

Thank you Elizabeth. My father passed away in January, 1998, ten days before his birthday. And unfortunately we could not be with him in Florida (he was on vacation)when he had a cardiac arrest and was brought back by the paramedics. He lived for a little over a week in the hospital. We all just wish we could have been there with him. I wrote this awhile ago, but I didn't have a computer until 3 weeks ago. But thank you for asking! I'm sorry for rambling!

Denise, what a beautiful tribute to your father. I too felt this way when I lost my precious daughter. Thanks for putting,so eloquently, into words what I have felt in my heart.

Pepper, I'm so sorry. I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child. Just the thought of anything happening to my children or young granddaughter brings sorrow to my heart. It must be the deepest pain in the world. My heart goes out to you.

D and Pepper, I am so sorry for you both. And don't either of you ever worry about rambling to me. I don't mind hearing it and I do it enough myself. God Bless...

Love,
