behind the river
watching water fall
maybe the end of it all
peaceful it lay
despite all it gave
what does life save
but itself
and leave the hollow embers
that remain
to wash away
unlike your pain
which will always stay

Ouch-this one gets to me. I have felt this way, Jackal, you are not the only one!

Very deep. Pain can certainly run deep like a river (is that a song?) Pain never goes away, it's true. But over time it stings a little less.

Very well expressed in few words. It is difficult sometimes to engender images with brevity...but you have accomplished this for me.
