Questions on Poetry

Does a word wither in time,
or does the hand that writes
affect its' meaning?

Can meaning resist
the mind of the beholder,
seen through shades?

Is taste given to those
skilled in the art of vintage?

My opinion would be no - yes - no.

Thank you very much Balladeer.

On the second question though, what if I rephrases it to:

Is the meaning of a poem the same to everyone, and unaffected by their personal biases?

That would be an absolute and loudly resounding NO.

My feeling is that we each interpret according to our circumstances...words can sometimes lose their emphasis, lose tone and warmth but much depends on the reader's mood and how they perceive the writer...guess poets are a strange brood..:-))...ok, I'm weird...lol

Thanks to both of you (and you aren't wierd Ranbow girl)

I just wrote this because of some comments I had read (on another site) that seemed to downplay someone's poetry because of the author's age, and it just seemed sad that something like that would happen, and I had just wanted to put some of my musings down to see what others thought.

Thanks again!
