Quite carefully he chose the bunch
-he purchased them - instead of lunch
White baby's breath, red roses too
-the best they had - perfection true.

The fragrant blooms remind him so
Of her sweet love - the best he'll know
His loving bride, best friend so dear
His cherished one - it is quite clear.

A token small - but from the heart
For all she's done - it's but the start
Of many blooms still yet to be
From now and through eternity.

Now after work he hurries fast
-recalling times that long are past
-bouquets of yore - he ever gave
Then lays them down - upon her grave.

...Bouquets of love shall ever be
Presented there - eternally.

Wonderful....it brings to mind Joe DiMaggio putting fresh flowers at Marilyn Monroe's resting place...every week, without fail until he himself was gone.

Good poem. I like your work

Thank you caroline. That's exactly what it reminded me of after I read it too. I didn't have them in mind though when I was writing it. Thanks again!

I didn't expect it to end like this! I thought he was hurrying home to give her a bouquet for their anniversary, or something. How very sad and touching.

Thank you Elizabeth. I was going for a surprise ending! Blame it on the Sixth Sense! (The best surprise ending EVER!)

Well, it's getting quite late and though I dread signing off (I may not be able to get back online for another week!) If not I hope it's because the computer died again and not me! Although I'd love to stay the course, my hubby's hinting at divorce!! (just kidding!)

I loved that unexpected twist at the end! It was sad though, but not at all what I expected! Great work!
